Improvements at IRT Culburra Beach Aged Care Centre

17 April 2023

Dear family member/resident representative,

I am writing to you to let you know about some proposed improvements to your loved one’s care centre.

Why are the improvements being proposed?

The works would be undertaken as part of our commitment to ensure your loved one’s care centre is welcoming, creates a sense of belonging, and promotes independence, interaction and enjoyment for your loved one and their visitors.

What work would be undertaken?

We are proposing to undertake some painting and decorating improvements in the Branson and Evans Wings of the main care centre as well as some outdoor furniture upgrades.

The proposed improvements are outlined below.

Common areas

  • Painting of the Branson and Evans corridors and staff back-of-house to match other common areas in the main care centre
  • Painting of common area toilet doors to aid with identification
  • Updating all door signage including placement in line with braille recommendations
  • Replacement of artworks in the Branson and Evans corridors and main care centre lounge areas (please click here to view examples of the proposed artworks).

Resident care suites

  • Painting of care suite doors
  • Removal of privacy rails and privacy screens for all care suites that were previously shared as well as the second name plate on care suite doors
  • Removal of the second bed and bedside table in all care suites that were previously shared (if this has not already occurred).

We are proposing to use the following paint colours in the common areas and resident corridors of the Branson and Evans Wings as outlined in the map below.

Furniture

We are also proposing to replace the outdoor furniture in the top garden similar to those pictured below.

Palliative Care Room

In May we will be transitioning the Palliative Care Room to a permanent care suite.

With the recent transition of all shared rooms in the Branson and Evans wings to single rooms to support the delivery of safe care and services, there is no longer the requirement for a dedicated palliative care room at IRT Culburra.

The transition of the Palliative Care Room to a permanent care suite will allow the care centre to support local hospitals who are facing high demand for aged care beds that can support palliative and end of life care.

The changing care needs of the community means there is an increasing frequency of new residents requiring palliative and end of life care at admission.

We’d love your feedback

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the proposed improvements to your loved one’s care centre. We encourage you to share your feedback with Care Manager Rasmita Baral by Friday 28 April 2023.

If the feedback received is positive, we will engage the various contractors and provide you with further information around when the works will occur, which will likely be over the course of the next three months.

If you have any questions please speak with your Care Manager.

Kind regards,

Linzi Kells
IRT Operations Manager- Shoalhaven
