Dear family member/resident representative,
As you may recall IRT announced in August the purchase of a parcel of land near Milton. The 15 hectare property (currently referred to as Milton Meadows) is located south of Milton and west of Mollymook and the purchase includes an existing development approval for construction of a retirement living and aged care centre complex.
At the time of its purchase we explained that while it was helpful for the property to have an approved development plan our intentions were to explore potential design adjustments with a view to submitting an application to modify the plans.
We also explained that this would also include the review of our plans to redevelop IRT Sarah Claydon to determine the potential for future relocation of its services to the new property when built.
What has happened since and what happens next?
Since the purchase was finalised our project team has been reviewing the approved design to determine opportunities for changes to align more with our vision and service delivery model. This includes exploring the incorporation of services that enable older Australians to remain independent and stay in their homes longer.
This review has been a preliminary step only, with consultation and input from aged care centre residents, their nominated representatives and staff an essential and important phase before progressing the project.
We expect to begin this consultation process early next year when we will also seek to discuss with you, the future of the Sarah Claydon property. We have not yet determined our future plans for Sarah Claydon but we understand some residents and their loved ones may be feeling unsettled about this and we are eager to talk with you about any concerns and questions you have. We have not yet determined our future plans for Sarah Claydon but we are committed to continuing to keep you informed.
We plan to schedule meetings with residents and nominated representatives about this in March 2022. Dates have not yet been set, but when finalised we will extend an invitation to you and hope you will be able to join us.
Is there a timeline for the development?
We don’t yet have a finalised program for the new development but it will include a period of extensive consultation. Given the potential size of the project and our desire to incorporate unique features for ageing in place our current estimate is when it is finally approved, construction will be phased over a 10 year period.
Meanwhile, with a relaxation of public health orders and restrictions, our maintenance program has resumed to initiate improvements and to ensure our environment is well maintained. The Facilities Management team has conducted a thorough inspection and work has already commenced. We will continue to assess the current needs of the site to ensure we meet the expectations of our residents and staff.
We are committed to keeping you, your loved one, and our staff informed.
If you have any questions please call our Customer Service team on 134 478.
Yours sincerely,
Nia Briguglio
